Check Imaging FAQs
Q What is "Check Imaging"?
Using a new technology, we are able to scan both front and back of your original paper checks into our computer system and store them on a disk. That picture is then able to be reproduced at anytime. This technology is a giant step forward from the traditional microfilm used now.
Q How will this new technology change my monthly statement?
No longer will you have to sort through your checks. Your monthly statement will be prepared with all of your imaged checks printed on 8 1/2" x 11" sheets of paper sorted by check number. These sheets will be easy to store in a three ring binder and will replace your original checks.
Q Why is the Bank going to this system?
The First National Bank has always been committed to providing the best service to our customers. Moving forward with new technology is one more way we show that commitment. Check imaging will allow us to offer you better service on your accounts.
Q How much will this new service cost?
There is no charge for the check imaging service. It is a free service we will provide to all of our checking account customers.
Q What are the benefits of check imaging to me as a customer?
1. Easier reconciliation of your statement. Your imaged checks are sorted in numerical order. Under each check will be the date the check was posted to your account, the check number, and the amount of the check.
2. A ready-made filing system for storing your checks and statements. Statements and checks will be printed on paper that is pre-punched with holes to be stored in a three-ring binder that we will provide to you.
3. Financial information is easier to prepare. The convenience of having all your account information in one binder will be a great help at the end of the year for you and/or your tax prepare.
4. Improved bank research capabilities. Copies of your checks or account information will be easily available.
Q Does this mean I will not get my checks back?
Actually, you WILL be getting your checks back. It will just be in a different form. Your statement will have exact reproductions of your paper checks.
Q What if I need proof I paid for something?
Imaged checks are fully acceptable by the IRS and in a court of law. If you need an image of the front or back of any item, it can be provided almost immediately, just come in or call us. We can also enlarge the image for easier signature and endorsement verification. The quality of an imaged check is superior to that of a microfilm copy.
Q What will the bank do with the original paper checks?
After scanning your checks to an optical disk for permanent storage, we will keep the paper checks for up to 60 days before they are destroyed.
